Suicide by lion attack: Man strips naked and feeds self to lions
Man feeds himself naked to lions and is mauled savagely
The man who's identity has been kept secret, had broken into the lions cage at the Santiago's zoo in Chile on Saturday and tried to feed himself to the vicious lions in an apparent suicide by lion attack.
In broad day light and in the full view of horrified visitors, the naked man was pounced on by two lions who proceeded to maul him repeatedly.
The man was only saved when zoo officials spotted the attack and shot dead two of the lions mauling him.
He was taken to a nearby hospital but the attack had put him in a critical condition.
The Cage had contained several adult lions, and the two lions killed were male and female.
Alejandra Montalba the director of Santiago's Metropolitan Zoo stated that the zoo was filled with a crowd of visitors during the horrific incident.
She said that the man had stripped naked and jumped into the cage right in the middle if the lions.
There were no fast acting tranquilizers available so Zoo keepers had been forced to use live ammunition to kill the beasts in order to save the man's life.
People who witnessed the attack say that the man made made religious proclamations as the attack commenced.
It was clearly a case of suicide by lion attack since a suicide note was said to have been found inside the pocket of his discarded clothes.
