Tip #56: Did you know these Kitchen Tips??

As tiny drops make a mighty ocean, even a small concern, care in every aspect  can avoid wastage and bring quality to your everyday cooking. Follow these Smart Samayal Tips to achieve the best...

  • When buying cabbage, look for heads that appear heavier than their size with crisp leaves.

  • Try using carrots instead of sugar to sweeten your sauces.

  • If you use both an oven and a stove to cook, always keep a towel in your hands when touching any pans. It's easy to forget which ones are hot.

  • Mushrooms should be wiped off with a damp cloth and not washed under the faucet since they are like sponges and will absorb the water.

  • While using ginger and garlic paste in curries, always use garlic at 60% ratio and ginger at 40% as ginger is very strong and may make your dish sharp and pungent.

  • While cutting Eggplants (Brinjals) put them in a bowl of water mixed with a teaspoon of milk to retain its colour.

  • If you forget to soak Chana Rajma overnight. Just soak the chana/Rajma in the hot water in a casserole for an hour before cooking.

  • Add few drops of lemon juice to water  while cooking rice to get milky white rice.

  • Store ice cream boxes in Ziploc freezer bags and freeze to avoid formation of ice crystals.

  • Remove the stems of green chillies while storing them .This will help them to stay fresh for long.

  • Poori can be rolled and place between well-rinsed wet muslin cloth at least an hour ahead and can be Fried before serving.

  • To cut the cake perfectly use a warm knife. Show the knife in stove flame for few seconds and use it. Be cautious to keep it away from kids.

  • During summer pour some lemon juice in icetrays and after they become solid store the cubes in zip lock covers and freeze. When you serve any juice, tender coconut or butter milk take two cubes, crush them and add to the juice to get wonderful taste and flavour.
