Man commits suicide after losing savings on a bet for France to win Euro 2016
A young man committed suicide after losing the last of his savings on a bet that France would win the Euro 2016 final.
27 year old Fidel Nikitin had hoped that his £2,300 football
bet would enable him to clear his huge debt.
He enthusiastically placed his bet for a France win.
But Portugal went on to beat the host nation France one, nil.
Before he killed himself, Izhevsk who was a mobile phone salesman, originally from Russia, left a haunting message on his social media page after the 1-0 defeat saying:
"Thank you and forgive me."
Police reports state that he walked onto the Ludzya-Izhevsk railway track right in front of an approaching train.
Fidel had taken out a series of loans but was unable to pay them back.
He had hoped that France would win and, the bet would allow him to clear his debts.
His relatives say the University educated Izhevsk was devastated after France lost the Euro 2016 final to Portugal.
