Formerly crowned miss Puerto Rico beauty queen has lost a legal bid to reclaim the crown which was stripped from her due to her 'diva behaviour' .

She lost the crown and lost her legal bid to reclaim it. Kristhielee Caride had her case tossed out by a judge who ruled that she had undoubtedly violated the terms of her contract as the island's Miss Universe contestant.

The incidents which led to her losing the crown were a bit bizarre, but clearly angered the show organisers. The 24-year-old sparked a backlash by refusing to attend a designated hair salon and failing to appear on a TV programme blaming traffic, the BBC reported.

Ms Caride took the organisers to court seeking $3million (£2.25million) in damages.

In March, Desiree Lowry, the national director of the competition, announced Caride had been sacked.

She said: "I saw the damage that she was doing and the damage that she was doing to the organisation.

"Miss Puerto Rico is a public figure and part of your job is to be in front of the camera.

"You always have to put your best face forward. It's a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions."

She gave flimsy excuses for her actions at first. Caride, who was crowned in 2015, allegedly told pageant officials it was a one off and she was having a personal crisis but didn't apologise for her behaviour.

But she continued with her bad behavior. She also later cancelled public appearances, claiming she had doctor's appointments she said she couldn't reschedule.

Eventually she did go on Facebook to apologize to fans.

She wrote in Spanish: "Beauty queens are not exempt from having a bad day. I allowed my feelings to get in the way of my work.

"I would like to express my most sincere apologies to each and every one of my fans first of all those who have supported me from the first moment, to my work team and the organisation of miss universe Puerto Rico.

"It was never my intention to make you feel bad, hurting or damaging the image of those who have helped me to be where I am today.

"It is human to err, it is also courageous to recognise our errors and I want to continue being an example of a real woman with purpose that maintains their head held high before all adversity that happens in life."

Caride didn't agree with the committee's decision but said she accepted it "with dignity".

"I will always remember that night of November 12," she went on. "When I won the title, and all the experiences and lovely memories of having been Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2016."

First runner-up Brenda Jimenez represented Puerto Rico at the Miss Universe pageant.

Caride lost her court case and did not get a cent of the $3million.
