Women are often preyed upon, and it is not a matter to take lightly. Even if the woman happens to be a Celebrity who got the better of her attacker—like Gigi Hadid.
Women put up with a lot of nonsense on the street all the time, and the fact that super model Gigi Hadid fought a guy who assaulted her on the street of Milan makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Her attacker has been identified. A man, who has since been named as “well known prankster” Vitalii Sediuk, came up behind Hadid, grabbed her by the waist, and picked her up as she was leaving the Max Mara show at Milan Fashion Week. Hadid promptly used her elbows to shove the guy off her and he fled the scene.
Tough girl Hadid even went after him as he fled the scene! She then chased him a little bit. That’s right, prankster That’s what you get.
But the story doesn’t really end there. This is where the media really went of the rails twisting the story to make the attacker into some sort of victim. Media outlets, taking the picture of Hadid throwing elbows, with her designer sunglasses falling off of her face, ran with it.
Instead of writing “Some Crazy Man Thought Touching A Woman On The Street Was OK, Can You Believe It?” as a headline, they went the other, more predictable route. Headlines varied in describing her actions as “aggressive” or writing that she “lashed out.” The Sun even made a stupid pun labeling her self-defense as “not model behavior.”
We live in a world where women are raped and harassed on a daily basis — Hadid acted exactly like any women would when touched and physically picked up by a stranger.
The model voiced her displeasure at the media's handling of what was a potentially dangerous situation. I mean... Celebrities have been killed this very same way.
Hadid eventually took to Twitter, like the legend that she is, to set people straight. She tweeted her defense, linking to The Sun article which also called the man a “fan.” She wrote: “To unknown article writer: fan?!!! The ACTUAL fans that were there can tell you what happened. I’m a human being. ”
She stated her right to defend herself. She added in another tweet, “and had EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho.” She also tweeted that she was grateful for her boxing coach.
