It's incredible but true—Tupac and Madonna once dated. In fact the rap legend and the pop legend dated for a long time by celebrity standards. Few knew about the affair that lasted close two years and seemed to stem from some pretty deep feelings.

With the rapper gone, many have speculated about the actual circumstances of their relationship. What really went down? But now, a handwritten letter from Tupac Shakur to Madonna has gone up for auction at Gotta Have Rock and Roll. The precious letter has a starting bid of $100k.

The emotional letter was written by the talented rap lyricist at the age of 24. It was pennned a year and a half before he was shot dead.  It appears that Pac sent Madonna the note after their reported relationship hit some snags. 

It was Dated January 15th 1995 and written to the 'Material girl' singer while he was in prison.

The rap star expressed himself clearly stating how he had been waiting a long time to write it.  He wrote: 'Mainly because I was struggling to find all the answers so that I wouldn't leave any unanswered questions. 

'First and foremost I must apologise to you because like you said I haven't been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being.

He tries to explain to her the reasons their relationship could not go on. 

'Can you understand that?' he continued.

'For you to be seen with a black man wouldn't in any way jeopardise your career, if anything it would make you seem more open and exciting. 

'But for me, at least in my previous perception I felt due to my 'image' I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.

 'I never meant to hurt you.' He added. 

'It no longer matters how I'm perceived. Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with an extremely famous sex symbol.'

In 2015 Madonna in an interview confirmed that she and the 'Carlifonia Love' singer dated for several months. 

The relationship began back in 1993 and fizzled out in 1995, about 18 months after his death.
