It's hard to believe it when some murderers are finally caught and revealed. Hard to believe because many times they killers don't look like the gruesome crime they committed.

The first picture of the suspect in the New York jogger rape and murder has been revealed.

The victim who was killed after leaving home for a jog was a keen jogger, who ran to her death while on a visit to her parents.

Avid runner Karina Vetrano, 30, was found dead in a New York park in August last year.

According to evidence she died while fighting her attacker. Police believe she was punched in the face before being dragged into the park and sexually assaulted and strangled in the Howard Beach area of Queens.

Chanel Lewis, the 20-year-old suspect was arrested over the weekend and is expected to be arraigned on murder and sexual assault charges.

He was nailed by DNA recovered from the victim's body and phone which linked him to the crime after he voluntarily submitted a sample last week, the New York Daily News reports.

The sample allegedly matched DNA found under Ms Vetrano's fingernails.

Lewis, who was arrested on Saturday outside his home in Brooklyn, also made "detailed incriminating statements and admissions" to detectives, said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

Finally some Justice. Ms Vetrano's parents were relieved after learning of the arrest.

Her mother, Cathy, said: "The demon must get his justice. We will see to it."

Ms Vetrano's father, Phil, who found her body, added: "I'm not going to say it is a good day but we can move forward now. We know who did this."

Lewis' father was shocked saying his son was a humble kid and it was surprising to link him to such a horrific crime. 

Strangely, most vicious killers never look like killers—even when they're caught.
