Chocolate are yummy snacks we can't seem to get enough of. They are even loaded with healthy stuff that's great for you and me—but what about a man's best friend? Dogs. Truth is as much as we like to toss titbits of whatever we're eating to our beloved pets, you’re actually not supposed to feed dogs chocolate. It’s one of those things that people say a lot, but that nobody ever questions. Dog owners are always on the lookout for the best foods for dogs. Trust me—cocoa products isn't one of them. For me it was total mystery until I went all scientific and discovered the reason for this. Human chocolate is apparently highly toxic to dogs.

So what’s the root of the problem? Why can’t a dog enjoy a bit of candy like we do? . Normal chocolate contains a stimulant called “theobromine”, which is a bitter alkaloid that comes from the cacao plant. Although it’s completely harmless to us lucky humans, for our puppy pals it can be fatal – affecting not just the central nervous system, but also the heart. If a dog eats a certain quantity of the dark brown stuff, they might die because it is quite poisonous to their bodies. So remember, next time you're eating choco, ignore that sad eyed puppy at your feet staring up at you with longing eyes.
