Sylvester Stallone leaves Expendables franchise turns down 20 million dollars
In a surprising move actor Sylvester Stallone leaves The Expendables movie franchise after starring in three instalments. The veteran star has decided not to return to the franchise for it's fourth installment. It is definitely a big blow to the movie since he is one of the main driving forces both in front and behind the camera.
On Tuesday, just three days before the news broke, Sly was out and about in Beverly Hills and appeared to be in good spirits inspire of the major career decision he just made.
He left because of a serious difference of opinion. The 70-year-old actor, who co-wrote the first three movies in the series, is said to be at odds creatively with Nu Image/Millennium chairman Avi Lerner over the direction of the fourth Expendables installment. In every way, it will be a hard piss to swallow for the successful Franchise.
Turned down millions. It is rumored the film would have brought Sly the biggest up-front payday of his career with $20 million dollars for taking the part.
There might still be a ray of hope though. All hope may not be lost for fans of the action flicks, Avi told Deadline 'We agreed on 95% of things, but there are certain things in production we don’t agree on. I don’t think it’s over, but write whatever you want.'
Major box office hit worldwide. The first three Expendables movies have grossed over $803 million dollars worldwide, $227 million of that in the US. The amazing success of the movie was powered by some of the most legendary action leading men in Hollywood movie history.
Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Dolth Lundgren have been in all three Expendables films.
Other big stars like Bruce Willis, martial arts legend Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Kelsey Grammar are some of the other actors who have appeared in different parts of the franchise. It was a mix that worked 3 times in a row.
The fourth Expendables is meant to be the last, according to Stallone before he withdrew from the project.
We all hope he changes his mind. Expendable or not, Stallone will be missed greatly if he decides not to return to the franchise.
