Heavywight boxer Wladimir Klitschko retires weeks after Anthony Joshua defeat
Former Heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko retires
Heavyweight boxing legend, Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing. The Ukrainian made the shocking announcement after a remarkable 21-year career that saw him amass 64 wins out of his 69 career fights."I deliberately took a few weeks to make my decision, to make sure I had enough distance from the fight at Wembley Stadium,” Klitschko said in a statement released on his website. “As an amateur and a professional boxer, I have achieved everything I dreamed of, and now I want to start my second career after sports.
The news would be a disappointment for Current Champion Anthony Joshua who defeated Klitschko in an epic heavyweight bout in April this year. Joshua was gearing up for a rematch bout with him, scheduled for Las Vegas on November 11.
One of the greatest in the sport's history. As the curtain closes on his illustrious career, the Ukrainian retires as one of Boxing's true greats. During his 21 year spell, he held the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles, as well as the lineal crown. He remains the second-longest serving heavyweight champion of all time behind another heavyweight legend Joe Louis. Over a 9 year span he had 18 consecutive defences of his titles and remained undefeated until his 2015 loss to Tyson Fury.
