Relief as World War 2 Bomb found in London detonated by Royal Navy
The second World War has been over for more than 70 years now, and yet the relics of that deadly era continues to haunt men even to this day.
A 230kg German World War Two bomb found in London has been detonated by The Royal Navy.
The still dangerous device, which was found in Brent, north-west London, was destroyed in a controlled explosion this morning to the relief of troubled residents who have been ill at ease since the discovery of the destructive relic.
Here is how the The Ministry of Defence used social media to explain how they handled the seven decade old bomb. They posted a photo of the device on Twitter along with the caption: : ‘After the @BritishArmy made the fuse safe, the bomb was destroyed by the @RoyalNavy Southern Diving Unit in a controlled demolition today.’
Rushed to safety. Residents were evacuated after the discovery of the unexploded bomb in Brondesbury Park.
It was eventually defused and removed from the site more than 24 hours after it was first found. But it did raise fears and cause a lot of confusion, since the German bomb was discovered in a site where construction workers were about to erect an apartment building.
Hundreds of residents resorted to hotel accommodation until the danger was contained.
